There are 8 phases of the lunation and the “new moon” is the very first phase that initiates the 29.5 day cycle. In attributing the first day of the lunar calendar we use the second “new moon” that occurs after the winter (northern hemisphere) solstice. This specific date can fall anywhere between 21st January and 20th February on any given solar year.
In 2026 we find that the Aquarius new moon on 17th February marks our LUNAR NEW YEAR.
In Chinese Astrology, we observe 12 zodiac animal signs and 5 elemental qualities. This lunar new year is marked with the main character of the “Fire Horse.” Channelling a distinctly powerful energy that evokes dynamism, electricity and movement. The atmosphere is vital, providing fertile grounds for us to prioritise our independence and our will.
The fire horse year moves with intention and great force. It is a year where the static becomes instable, where density loosens, and the collective imagination almost incarnates by itself.
Change, confusion, possibility and manifestation are the four “horsemen” of 2026.
Global communities simultaneously grappling with the concepts of entropy, AI, and slop.
Complexity becomes just another activity to “do well” outside of the minimalist/maximalist framework. Yet when we can ground ourselves within our authenticity and our endeavour for self knowledge, this will centre our intentions within our need for meaning and purpose on both an individual level and a communal/community level. If you’ve already done this internal work, you will be equipped to stand strong amongst the tumult and watch as you materialise your wildest dreams. If you think you require more internal work, the advice is to hang back, be low key, and reserve your energy whilst doing the self-work.
2026 is a universal “1” (one) year in numerology. This “1” energy embodies new beginnings, rebirthing and reiterations – and exists at the start of a 9-year cycle. This is a clean slate, a cosmic reset. Its time to look deep within and face the inner blue print of you. It’s another sign that encourages us to contextualise this year as one of initiation, expression and creation.
Its important to acknowledge we have just emerged from a universal “9” year – 2025. The number 9 is about surrender, completion, letting go, shedding, detoxing, grieving, culmination. The energy was off, it felt heavy, immense, intense, internal. We stumble-crawl our way through and into the universal “1” energy of 2026. Facing us is an open doorway of new possibilities, but we bring with us the learning, knowledge, and wisdom from the struggles and challenges of the “9.”
Planetary astrology sees 2026 playing out as a colossal epic, a narrative that rivals the greats. One of the more impactful transits lies in the phenomenon that all outer, slow-moving, “generational” planets are ingressing to new zodiacal signs: Uranus moves into Gemini, both Neptune and Saturn pirouette into Aries, Jupiter careens into Leo, and Pluto slides around the early degrees of Aquarius. This is an exceptional moment in time as it illustrates an unprecedented year, never in all of recorded history has all major planets made transits into new zodiac signs within the same year, indicating massive change and rapid growth within a lot of areas in modern life.
When Uranus the planet of innovation, genius, and upheaval, cracks its way into Gemini on July 7th, it elicits possibilities of scrambling communication systems, disrupting media culture and shocking our collective understandings of normalities.
As Jupiter skips its way into the constellation of Leo on June 30th, it will magnify our yearnings for creative flair and our desires to be seen, heard, and understood. Jupiter is the planet of luck, joy and expansion, carrying positivity and exuberance to all that it touches. Yet, like all celestial bodies, it does have a dark side, and dependent on how it sits in relation to other planets it can create lessons in greed, excess and addiction. With Pluto and Chiron (an asteroid dubbed “the wounded healer”) both in hard aspect to Jupiter’s arrival in Leo, we could see our entertainment industries, influencer culture and our social media presences undergoing a period of transformation. We could also bare witness to things where our collective ideas of childhood and trauma take centre stage. Chiron always wants to exhume deep-seated traumatic experiences for the purpose of healing.
Pluto dancing around the early degrees of Aquarius is a scene that is archetypally screaming REVOLUTION. The last time Pluto penetrated the bubble of Aquarius the US declared its independence and the French decided to have a very famous revolution. We are looking forward to a 15 year-ish period of world-order deconstruction – which is really laying the foundation for this year’s extremities.
On February 20th, both Saturn and Neptune come together, in what is called an exact conjunction, in the very first degree of the entire ecliptic and zodiacal circle: 0 degrees of Aries. This is another first for recorded history, as the last time it would have happened was 8,000 years ago. Saturn, the planet of discipline, hard work, lessons, and endurance, will generate considerable friction against Neptune, the planet of illusion, dreamscape, spirituality, and escapism. At 0 degrees of the entire circle, these two protagonists have been chosen to introduce a new era. with the cardinal energy of Aries, this pairing is promising us to unveil the hidden truths, completely annihilate our illusions, and painstakingly enforce a societal reckoning. Shadow work is eminent, facing our own personal shadow will be necessary whilst we move through such a world-wide cultural reset. Stay present and focussed, avoid idle day-dreaming and give your attention to what is in your immediate present.
Although we are embarking on a year foreseen as turbulent, full of change and societal restructuring, it is also a year where potential becomes material. We can create, manifest, wield, design, construct, build and craft. Step wisely, stand with resilience, and exist in intention, and maybe, just maybe, your dreams will come true.
