nurturing new forms: a glimpse into the creative process
earlier this year, i found myself questioning the visual direction of my brand. raised with a deep appreciation for practical craft and honest work, i've always felt at odds with fashion's polished narrative. this feeling of being an outsider ~ amplified by being ethnic, short, and curvy ~ has shaped my experience in traditional fashion spaces. through this period of reflection, i began to understand what truly nurtures my creative practice ~ the need for routine, expression, and moments of calm. today, i'm sharing how these personal revelations are shaping simétrie's next chapter.
the inspiration
my mood board reveals what's been speaking to me during this time of self-discovery ~ gentle curves, soft volumes, and welcoming shapes that feel like a quiet embrace. there's something deeply nurturing about rounded edges and organic forms; they invite you in, like a comfortable chair or a familiar silhouette. i'm drawn to how these elements create spaces of comfort while maintaining their quiet strength ~ a balance i'm learning to find in my own practice.
the colours
two new colours emerged from this exploration: wheat and matcha. i started by hand-mixing these shades in my melbourne atelier, testing until they felt just right. once i was happy with them, i worked closely with the tannery in queensland to translate these custom colours into leather. wheat brings a gentle warmth, while matcha offers a sense of calm.
the process
as a mostly solo craftsperson, i've learned to take things step by step. with the leather colours now finalised, my next phase will be sketching new designs that embody these same qualities of nurture and balance. i'm taking time to let these forms evolve naturally, making sure each piece feels true to this vision while maintaining my commitment to thoughtful creation.
what's next
the nurture collection will unfold gradually over the coming months. i'll start with signature styles in wheat and matcha, with new designs to follow. as i move forward with this new direction, i'll be slowly phasing out the lune pochette ~ if this piece has been on your wishlist, i encourage you to place your order soon. this measured approach lets me give each piece the care and attention it deserves, creating bags that become lasting companions in your everyday life.
