thick lune bag / almond

The Thick Lune began with the crescent from my Crescent Moon collection, my favourite shape at the time. I carried it through to Pisces, a collection I made during a really low time, when my moods were like water, flowing every which way. I like the woo woo of astrology, and I often find comfort in its guidance. The moon pulls the tides, and I think it pulls on the tides of our emotions too, so the moon belonged in a collection about water. It's thick because the silhouette is deep, like a wedge, and this half moon fits more than meets the eye. It's also more complex to make than it looks. It's one of the few designs I still finish with twenty minutes of hand-stitching, because the sewing machine can't reach. A nod to when I hand-stitched every design in the Crescent Moon collection.

Almond is the colour of almond biscotti, lightly toasted. I named it for the nut that turned up in so many of the dishes and desserts I grew up with. It's one of three new colours that arrived with Figura.
